ALL ABOUT LUIGI

Luigi (ルイージ, Ruīji) is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He is unlocked by playing 22 matches in Brawl, then defeat Luigi, Beating Classic Mode using no continues, then defeating Luigi, get Luigi to join your party in The Subspace Emissary. His moveset seems essentially unchanged, though some of his potential disadvantages from Melee appear to have been diminished (very low friction, very low falling speed, very low horizontal air speed). His dash attack has the same animation and effect, except the last blow now has some knockback, making this move not quite so easy to punish. Another minor change is that his voice is no longer a recycled Mario voice sped up, but his deeper voice from recent games.
SSBB was the only title in the Smash Bros. series where Luigi was higher on the tier list than his older brother Mario (Luigi is currently 23, Mario 29) until the recent SBR Melee tier update.

While many consider Luigi a clone or semi-clone of Mario, there are some important differences between them. Like Mario, his Fireballs are spammable and help his approach, but Luigi’s are not affected by gravity, which can be good or bad depending on the situation. Luigi is also a good juggler due to his speedy attacks and his own speed. His jabs, tilts, and aerials are considered fast and to have high priority. His neutral aerial is also a Sex Kick and can often kill at medium percentages on most characters. He is also able to chain throw many characters when they are at low percentages. His smashes, like most of his attacks, are considered fast and somewhat strong. His specials are also considered good and great for recovery. If one keeps pressing the special attack button during Luigi Cyclone, Luigi will rise up and this can be repeated in a manner similar to Koopa Hopping. His Side Special, the Green Missile, can be used for horizontal recovery to make up for the lack of horizontal recovery from his Super Jump Punch. The Super Jump Punch is unique in the fact that if sweetspotted, it will become the Fire Jump Punch, a much stronger version that deals fire damage and can kill at lower percentages.
Luigi's problems mostly revolve around his unusual mobility. His lateral air speed is the second-slowest, and his fall rate is relatively slow. His traction is notoriously poor, and his ground speed is rather slow. Range can also be a problem against the swordsmen and possessors of a superior ranged game.
His Taunt is also unique in the sense that it can hit opponents and deal 2% of damage, but if it is used when the opponent is on the ledge, it is almost always a meteor smash KO. His Final Smash, the Negative Zone, is strange in the sense that it creates a bubble which, if opponents enter, can have many hazardous effects.

Up: Does a variety of humorous poses very quickly in a set order: Faces the screen with one hand on his waist, the other giving the peace symbol, next he turns to the right slightly, pointing his hands that direction. Then, he places his right hand just below his mustache, as if he is thinking. Then he turns away from the screen, crouching, as if hes sad, and finally, he faces the screen once more, with both hands on his face, giving a frightened look, reminiscent to the box art of the Nintendo Gamecube game Luigi's Mansion. The switch between each expression is so fast, it can't be seen unless the game speed is slowed down a bit. He also makes a sound during each expression: Ho! Ha! Hm! He! Hoo!
Side: Becomes stiff, falls on the floor, then seems to balance himself back up again. He says something that resembles "Pow pow".
Down: Kicks at the ground (does 2% damage and has very strong fixed vertical knockback.). Luigi utters a bashful "Hm." If used on an opponent hanging from a ledge, it will
Meteor Smash them.
[
edit] Role in Subspace Emissary
Earlier in the story, Luigi is seen in a green area by some hills. A few Waddle Dees walk by, giving Luigi clueless stares but Luigi is utterly scared by them. He is then ambushed by
King Dedede and is turned into a trophy. Using Luigi's trophy to bait Wario, Dedede ambushes him with an army of Waddle Dees before driving off with Wario's cargo, with Ness, a princess, and Luigi's trophies in it. At his hideout, Dedede puts a badge on Luigi (comically on his nose), Ness, and the princess's trophies, before the ceiling collapses on them, and Bowser takes the princess's trophy. But after every character in the Subspace is turned into trophies by Tabuu, the Dedede Badges on Luigi, Ness, and Kirby (who got the princess's badge) bring them back to life. Ness and Luigi bring King Dedede back to life, who thanks them with a big hug before they depart into the Subspace and rescue everyone else. When Wario attacks Dedede, Luigi and Ness come to Dedede's aid, much to Wario's shock. Wario later decides to join them after some thinking. After this, Luigi joins the other heroes as they attack Tabuu.
[
edit] Trivia
Luigi's trophy in Subspace Emissary is different from his collectible trophy. Instead of adjusting his hat, Luigi holds his hands to his face making a surprised expression, which is one of the poses from his up taunt. This distinction is unique to Luigi.
Luigi's trophy pose is similar to Mario's idle pose in SSBM in were he is adjusting his hat.
Apparently, Luigi has a higher probability of tripping than any other character. (2% each time the control stick is presses, versus 1% for other characters.)
Luigi's crowd chant seems to have only two or three people to it, as opposed to a large group. This could be a running joke to how he is the lesser Mario brother referenced in previous Mario RPG games.

Attributes
Mario is considered a beginner character that people can learn with. This is due to him having no major size or speed flaws and is considered all around. His forward aerial is a meteor smash which helps him edgeguard. His forward special, the Cape, allows him to turn enemies around and reflect projectiles. The cape also propels him forward a little when used in the air. His Neutral Special, the Fireball, is spammable and helps his approach. His Down Special, F.L.U.D.D., has to be charged up and deals no damage but pushes enemies back similar to Kyogre or Water Gun. For his recovery, he can wall jump and use his Cape, along with his Super Jump Punch. F.L.U.D.D. can also be used to push him back horizontally. His Smash attacks are quick and strong, so he can execute them will little start-up lag. He is also known for being a good juggler with his quick attacks and aerials. He doesn’t have many ranged attacks, besides Fireball and F.L.U.D.D. Some of his finishers also require some sort of setup in order to work well.
Moveset
Ground Attacks
Normal
Neutral Attack - Jabs with his right, then his left, and then kicks with his right foot. Are all from Super Mario 64. Beneficial in making combos. 9% damage
Dash Attack - Slides forward and kicks with both feet. Also from Super Mario 64. Low priority, damage, and knockback. (Has IASA frames near the end of the attack)7-9% damage.
Forward Tilt - Does a roundhouse kick with his right leg. Has average damage and knockback, but has some range compared to some moves. (Has IASA frames after the kick; some odd momentum properties if exploited)Does 8% to foes.
Up Tilt - Delivers an uppercut while spinning. Average damage and above-average knockback. 7%
Down Tilt - Sweeps low to the ground with his leg. Average damage; low knockback allows for comboing.5% to enemies.
Smash
Side Smash - Shoots fire out of his hand. One of Mario's longest-ranged moves. Damage is highest when sweetspotted (at the flame), but strangely, knockback is somewhat greater around the hand than when sweetspotted. Can also be angled up and down. Does 18-23% normally, but up to 25% if aimed up and 22% if aimed down.
Up Smash - Sends opponents skyward with a headbutt. Has some good upwards knockback, and can Star KO some foes at middle-damage. 19% damage.
Down Smash - Does a breakdance sweep. Some of the best knockback out of Mario's moves. 21% damage.
Other
Ledge Attack - Does a somersault and then kicks upwards, from a laying down position.
100% Ledge Attack - Gets up then does an attack similar to his forward tilt.
Floor Attack -Gets up then punches behind him, then in front of him.
Trip attack-Kicks behind him, then in front of him while getting up.
Aerial Attacks
Neutral Aerial - Performs a Sex Kick kick in the air. Initially does 10%, then 5% afterwards.
Forward Aerial - Punches downward, this is a Meteor Smash. Does 10-13%.
Back Aerial - Spins and kicks backward. Similar to his Fair in the original Super Smash Bros. 12% damage.
Up Aerial - Does a somersault and kicks upward.11%
Down Aerial - Mario Tornado. Spins with fists then strikes with both on opposite sides. Up to 5% on the smaller hits, then 7% on the final for up to 12% damage.
Grabs & Throws
Pummel - Headbutt
Forward Throw - Mario spins around once then throws his opponent in front of him.
Back Throw - Mario spins around several times then throws his opponent backwards. It is similar to when Mario grabs Bowser by the tail, and then swings him around in an attempt to throw into the bombs in Super Mario 64. While a fairly long throw, he can damage other characters with the character he is swinging around.
Up Throw - Mario throws his opponent high into the air.
Down Throw - Mario slams his opponent into the ground

Taunts
Up - Turns into Super Mario. (Same as in SSB and Melee.)
Side - Takes off his hat, twirls around, smooths his hair over and puts his hat back on.(Similar to the level clear in New Super Mario Brothers)
Down - Spins in the air and falls on his back. (Resembles the dying animation from Donkey Kong.)
Changes from Melee to Brawl
Slightly smaller model.
Most attacks are slightly weaker/less knockback/less range.
New Down Special: F.L.U.D.D.
New Down Aerial: Mario Tornado.
Cape isn't quite as effective anymore as a ledge guarding technique due to the auto ledge grab feature, but is now more effective in assisting in recovery.
Fireballs travel considerably less distance but have slightly more hitstun.
Back Aerial has the animation of Mario's Forward Air from the first Smash Bros.
Forward Smash can KO even without being sweetspotted.
Fireballs deal 1% less damage, but have more hitstun and a larger hitbox
Back air attack is slightly stronger, and is used the way he used his forward aerial in Super Smash Bros.
Forward air attack has to be sweetspotted to spike.
Neutral Air is weaker
Throw backwards launches enemies more vertical than horizontal; somewhat random like Dr. Mario in Melee.
Role in the Subspace Emissary
In the beginning, a trophy of Mario and Kirby are thrown into the Midair Stadium, where they come to life and have a friendly fight. The player chooses the one they want to play as. If Mario is chosen, the opponent will be Kirby, and vice-versa. After the battle between the two, the winner revives the loser, they shake hands, and wave to the crowd. However, red ominous clouds appear above the stadium and the Halberd emerges from it. It releases Shadowbugs which form into the Primid. Peach and Zelda, who were watching the match, come to help, and after defeating all of the enemies, they are all confronted by the Ancient Minister. After seeing the two R.O.B.s setting up a Subspace Bomb, Mario runs to try and stop it, only to be blasted out of the stadium by a cannonball.
During his descent from Skyworld, Pit finds Mario's trophy, and revives him. Once Mario recounts what happened, the two continued the descent from Skyworld. When they reach the ground, they fight Primids across green plains and attempt to stop the Ancient Minister from delivering a bomb. Mario attempts to reach the Minister, but falls short; Pit also tries to get him by using a Footstool Jump on Mario, but he also fails, and they continue on their quest.
At one point in the story, the princess you saved back at the stadium will be turned into a trophy by Bowser. Shadowbugs take over the princess's trophy, creating a dark clone of her which tries to fire a Dark Cannon at Mario, (if the princess was Peach) or Link (if the princess was Zelda). However, Link/Pit destroys the gun, and fights the princess with his teammate. Mario/Link notices them standing by the princess's trophy, which dissentigrates. Enraged, Mario/Link attempts to attack Link/Mario, but he dodges the attack, and Link and Yoshi/Mario and Pit fight the other team. After either side is defeated, King Dedede uses Wario's cargo (which also contains Zelda/Peach, Ness, and Luigi's trophies) to snatch the opponents' trophies with a mechanical arm. Fortunately, Kirby appears from behind and severs the arm while reviving the opponents. King Dedede turns around and tries to get away, but Pit/Link fires an arrow at him, thus damaging the cargo. The five follow Dedede, and after a long journey, Mario and his friends confront Bowser, who escapes in the Koopa Clown Car with the trophy of the princess you didn't save. Mario then leads his team in helping Marth and Ike's group, and helps the other heroes at the end with the help of Sonic when they face Tabuu and the might of the Subspace Army.

Trivia
Although Mario can crawl in Super Mario 64 and DS, he lacks the ability to crawl. His brother, however, can crawl.
Mario is tied with Kirby for being the most playable character in the Subspace Emissary, being playable in 9 levels. Under certain circumstances, he is also the most defeated character, as he can be seen as a trophy up to four times.
One of his alternate costumes is Fire Mario, another is the original colors of his clothes (except for the blue cap).
Mario's cape is the only reflector that can reflect the F.L.U.D.D..
